THE SHORTER BARRELS ALLOW FOR EASY CARRY IN THE PORT POSITION SO A PERP CAN NOT GRAB THE GUN WHEN ENTERING A ROOM. WE TRAINED TO BRING THE WEAPON UP INTO THE ARMPIT AND PULL THE TRIGGER WHEN CONFRONTED WITH AN OPPONENT. DON’T WASTE TIME WITH SIGHTS WHEN CONFRONTED WITH AN AGGRESSOR WITHIN A FEW FEET. So, if you are wearing heavy armor or tactical gear, then you might find this stock to be a little bit uncomfortable when trying to aim your shotgun. How to Choose Stock for Your Shotgun.

If you own a shotgun and are not happy with its stock, then you can always upgrade the stock by purchasing a new one and replacing your old one with it. But before you purchase a new stock or another shotgun, you need to know the measurements of a stock that will be a comfortable fit for you. The whole idea behind choosing a shotgun stock is to choose one that allows you to be comfortable while you’re aiming the weapon. That way you don’t have any distractions or make any sudden movements with your body to try and adjust yourself while the target is in front of you.

So how do you figure out the stock size that is right for you? Well, there are a few ways to go about doing this. The easiest way is to use what is called a “try gun.” This is a special type of shotgun that has an adjustable stock to it. You can make the stock longer, shorter, or increase the height on top. These weapons are designed for people to get a feel for which stock adjustment gives them the most comfort. After you find an adjustment that is suitable, you measure the stock to see what the size is. Usually, these try guns are available at gun shops which have gunsmiths in them. A gunsmith will have the right tools to measure the stock properly after it has been adjusted. You’ll practically get a prescription for the stock that is just right for you based on the measurements that were done. Then you just take those measurements and find an existing stock that matches those measurements.

Aside from the size of the stock, you also should pay attention to the material in which the stock is made from. The two most common stock materials are laminated hardwood and molded plastic. The wood stocks contained layers of hardwood that get glued together while under pressure. These are the classic stocks that are pleasant to look at more than anything else. But the synthetic stocks often provide a lightweight alternative that makes it easier for users to handle the weapon. Since they are made of plastic, they are often cheaper than hardwood too. Therefore, you should test out each type of stock to get a feel for which material you’re more comfortable with. Some people prefer the wooden stocks because they like it to be heavier while others don’t. Choosing stocks is all about experimentation but once you find the right stock you’ll never want to let it go.

Так ли хорош приклад с пистолеткой от Месы? Вящая ли польза от компенсатора отдачи? Цена у него зубастая, однако.

Да, пока занимаюсь в основном пулевым бабахингом в мишени с отработкой скоростной стрельбы и перезарядки. Поглядываю на практику.

Машинка – Express Combo. Из допов пока только удлинитель магазина. Поглядываю также на ЛЦУ и коллиматоры, но с ними пока много вопросов (точнее, в применимости и том, куда вешать) – всё же вещи не самые дешёвые.

По прикладу от Месы – масса позитивных отзывов. Он считается одним из самых надежных, но и дорогих. Система компенсации отдачи очень сильно помогает начинающим стрелкам. Я начинал с приклада Knoxx SpecOps с компенсацией отдачи, он очень помогал первый год. Затем, когда я привык к отдаче, я поставил себе более простой приклад – Hogue, сейчас стоит Magpul.

Цевье и приклад Magpul очень хороши. Цевье очень ухватистое, мне нравится, правда, есть один нюанс, который я не описал в этом обзоре. Приклад удлинен вперед, а значит крепление для ремня, которое ставится между удлинителем и трубкой магазина – поставить невозможно. Это компенсируется наличием планок для установки дополнительного оборудования. Пластик не скользкий как на некоторых прикладах, покрытие удачное.

Приклад также дает много преимуществ: псевдопистолетка, эргономика, изменение длины и т. д.

Пулей у меня лучше всего получается как раз из Ремингтона с винтовочными прицельными приспособлениями, очень удобно.

ЛЦУ на – ружье довольно спорный вариант, дистанция короткая, искать пятно прицела нет времени. Коллиматор – это другой вопрос, для самообороны отличное решение, для стрельбы пулей – тоже.

Hello, do you speak Russian? It looks like you have Ukrainian name :) I wanted to ask several questions about stocks. Is Mesa with pistol grip good? Is recoil-reducing feature that good? The price is rather expensive. Also, I’m considering Magpul stock.

I want to upgrade my Remington 870, but I don’t want to hurry, I want to select the upgrades I can be sure about.

Are Magpul forend and stock good?

At the moment, I am mostly shooting slugs and also learn how to shoot and reload fast. Also, considering practical shooting.

My shotgun is Express Combo. I have upgraded it only with magazine extension. Also thinking about laser sight and holographic sight but I have many questions about them and how to attach them. And they are not cheap.

Mesa Tactical stock has lots of positive feedback. It is one of the most reliable but most expensive stocks. Recoil-reduction helps new shotgunners a lot. My first stock was Knoxx with recoil-reduction. It was very useful for me first year. Later, when I got used to recoil, I have installed a simple Hogue stock, now I have Magpul stock.

Magpul stock and forend are good. Forend is grippy, but there is one thing which I haven’t described in review. The forend is extended to the front and that means that it is not possible to use sling attachments which are installed between magazine extension and magazine tube. But Magpul forend has advantages: slots for additional equipment, for example.

I like shooting slugs out of my Remington 870 with rifle sights.

Not sure about laser sight on a shotgun. Distance is short and there is not time for looking at a target searching for point from laser.

Holographic sights are useful for slugs shooting and home defense.

It would be interesting to see your upgraded Remington 870 :)

Пистолетка даёт какие-то веские приемущества перед псевдопистолеткой? Впрочем, судя по вашему выбору, не особо :) По поводу цевья – смотрю именно на простое, качественное исполнение, варианты с планками, на мой взгляд, не стоят того (разве что фонарик подвесить).

По поводу винтовочных прицельных приспособлений – прочитал ваш отзыв на тритиевые мушку и целик, заинтересовался. До этого ещё смотрел на световозвращающие, вроде TruGlo. Кстати, а диоптрические прицелы (ghost ring) щупали?

По поводу ЛЦУ сам пришёл к тем же выводам, к тому же, на мой взгляд, ЛЦУ отрицательно скажется на балансе ружья. Хотя, есть несколько любопытных решений, даже ЛЦУ в сплаве с фонариком, ставящиеся с помощью стяжки вместо стандартной, крепящей удлинитель. Думаю, ЛЦУ приберегу уже для нарезного.

Сразу вопрос по коллиматору – куда его, на ваш взгляд, лучше ставить – докупать планку на ствольную коробку и крепить на неё, или использовать вариант с кольцом между прикладом и коробкой?

Кстати, коллиматор из соседней темы (для отстрела зомби :D ) очень забавная штука.

I use the ATI Akita adjustable hunting stocks on several of my 870s both 20 gauge and 12 gauge. They adjust from 12 3/8″ to 14 3/8″, have an adjustable comb and the absolute best recoil pad I’ve used.

I like the Mesa Tactical Urbino Stock for Remington 870 because it is simple and because of the wonderful pistol grip! I totally love that! I also like all the other things you talked about like the 5-position cheek riser and the ambidextrous sling plate. I feel that Mesa makes quality products and this is no exception.

Working on 2 870’s for home defense. The 1st is my wife’s 20 ga. Much easier for her to use & the kids as well. Not a lot available for 20’s. Looking for a 20 ga. slug barrel w/rifle sights & 3″ chamber. The other is my Marine Mag. Really would like a “recoil reducing” stock because they will both double as turkey guns. Any suggestions would be nice. Those 2 oz loads pack a wallop. A lot of the attributes that make a good tac shotgun also make a good turkey gun.
